John’s Greenhouse + Nelson Atkins Museum Engagement Session in Kansas City || Nathan + Jasmine
I love getting the opportunity to travel and visit new places, so when Nathan + Jasmine asked me to do their engagement session in their hometown of Kansas City, KS, I couldn’t be more thrilled! Kansas City has such a cool, urban vibe and it’s been on my travel bucket list for a while. It was the beginning of September, but it was actually pretty chilly that particular day. Plus, we spent the whole day worrying if it’d rain on us, but it held back. Thank God!
We first went to John’s Greenhouse, a family owned greenhouse attached to their own home. It was such a cute little place and I loved the fact that they don’t even sell their plants. They just like growing flowers and letting people have their photos taken with them. It was so warm and toasty in that greenhouse and there was just so much greenery! We spent almost an hour walking down all the rows and looking at the plants and knick-knacks. When Jasmine sent me some outfit options for the shoot, I instantly chose her green cardigan. Choosing colors that coordinate well with your surroundings is super important! It creates less of a distraction and more cohesion.
Next, we drove over to the Nelson Atkins Museum for more engagement photos. I had to put on my wooliest sweater, cause I need to be warm all the time, lol. This museum is so cool and we didn’t even go inside! Since it was so cold and cloudy, we had the grounds all to ourselves too. Engagement sessions are the perfect opportunity to get to know my brides and grooms before their wedding day, so we walked around laughing it up and stopping along the way to take photos. The black, stone sculpture was especially cool and when zoomed in, it looks like an Icelandic mountain behind them! The museum sits on a hill, so we got a really great view of Kansas City below us too.
If you’re looking for someone to shoot your wedding or engagement session in Kansas City, reach out asap! I would love to visit that beautiful city again.
